How It Works
Viloxazine is a newer non-stimulant ADHD medication that works primarily by blocking norepinephrine reuptake (similar to atomoxetine) but also has unique activity at serotonin receptors — specifically acting as a serotonin 5-HT2B antagonist and 5-HT2C agonist. Originally used as an antidepressant in Europe in the 1970s, it was reformulated and FDA-approved for ADHD in the US in 2021. Taken once daily in the morning with or without food. Capsules can be opened and sprinkled on a teaspoon of applesauce — consume immediately. Do not crush or chew contents. Full effect typically within 1–2 weeks.

Important Safety Information
Black Box Warning — Suicidal Thinking: Viloxazine may increase suicidal thinking in children and adolescents. Monitor closely, especially in the first weeks. Contact your provider immediately for any mood changes or self-harm thoughts.
Serotonin Syndrome Risk: Due to serotonin receptor activity, viloxazine can interact with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, and triptans. Signs include fever, agitation, rapid heart rate, tremor — seek emergency care immediately.
Blood Pressure and Heart Rate: Can raise heart rate and blood pressure. Periodic monitoring recommended. Tell your provider about any heart conditions.
MAOIs Contraindicated: Do not use within 14 days of stopping an MAOI.
