Generic: ramelteon  ·  Brand: Rozerem®  ·  Class: Hypnotic — Melatonin Receptor Agonist (Non-Controlled)
Insomnia Sleep Onset Non-Habit-Forming Long-Term Safe
🧠

How It Works

Ramelteon is a melatonin receptor agonist — the first and only sleep medication in its class. It works by selectively activating MT1 and MT2 melatonin receptors in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (the brain's circadian clock), mimicking the action of natural melatonin to promote the transition to sleep. Unlike benzodiazepines and Z-drugs, it does not enhance GABA activity, does not cause dependence, has no abuse potential, and is not a controlled substance. It is specifically effective for sleep onset problems and circadian rhythm disruption. It is the safest prescription sleep medication available for long-term use.
